Seal Types & Lubrication
Seal Type  Lubrication Point
V, G, Felt Seal  Center of bearing or void between bearing and seal
Labyrinth Seal  Center of bearing or void between bearing and seal
Taconite Seal Type A  Grease Nipple in Seal
Taconite Seal Type B  Center of bearing or void between bearing and seal
Agitators & Shafts
Agitators

As fitted to manufacturing, process and storage tanks. Other applications, such as in the pulp and paper industry, are for horizontally mounted shafts to drive paddles.  Streamliner units are fitted to the bearing housings to lubricate the bearings.

Applications can be subject to high water, chemical and corrosive material contamination. Streamliner provides a constant flow of grease to seal out contaminants

Conveyors

Fitted to the bearing housings to lubricate bearings.  In addition, housings are generally fitted with labyrinth or taconite type seals. The typical arrangement is;

  • One bearing and two seals per drive side housing.

  • One bearing and one seal per non driven housing.

Pump
One of the most common applications & subject to high water, chemical and corrosive material contamination.  Constant flow of grease to seal out contaminants. If the seal can be effectively lubricated and purged, the grease requirement of the bearing can be reduced.
Sheaves
Sheave applications are diverse           and can include wire rope    applications:
  • Mining equipment
  • Elevators
  • Cranes
  • Hoists
  • Cable Belts

The working environment to these applications can have access restrictions and contaminated environments.

Streamliner can be used to        lubricate sheave support bearings and also to apply lubricant to wire      ropes.
Couplings

Gear, spade and spider type couplings require lubrication to prevent fretting of contact areas of mating surfaces. Couplings tend to set up a pumping action that can displace lubricant & result in fretting corrosion of the coupling teeth, or rapid wear in other coupling types.                     When fitting single point lubricators to couplings, mount the axis of the lubricator in line with the axis of the shaft to minimize centrifugal forces from acting against the dispensing piston.

Journals

Plain bearings have a relatively small lubricant volume & operate on a total loss system. Typically used on auger shafts, gear support shafts or for power transmission. Applications can be subject to high water, chemical and corrosive material contamination. Journal bearings usually require a higher lubricant volume than anti friction bearings of the same diameter.

Electric Motors

As used in all heavy industries. Electric motor lubrication is ideally suited to the single point lubricator concept.                    Electric motor bearings are lubricated less frequently than other bearing types & over lubrication can result in greater problems than under lubrication.                                   If arrangement allows grease to enter the commutator or motor windings, over heating of the motor will result. When Streamliner is used on electric motors, have normal application rate & ensure that the bearing housing has a grease vent port.
